Breaking: Tensions Rise as Nsukka Youth Group Challenges Roy Ekwueme’s Leadership Declares Electoral Board Invalid

Tensions Rise as Nsukka Youth Group Challenges Roy Ekwueme’s Leadership Declares Electoral Board Invalid

Trouble seems to be brewing for Roy Ekwueme, President of the Nsukka Youths General Assembly, as a faction within the group has declared his tenure over, rendering his electoral committee null and void.

It has been gathered that social media has been rife with discussions about a controversial election planned by Ekwueme. Just three weeks ago, a tense congress took place at Adada House in Nsukka, Enugu North Senatorial District, where an electoral committee was hurriedly set up under chaotic circumstances.

According to sources, the meeting, which descended into verbal and physical confrontations, was abruptly cut short after Ekwueme established the committee. A witness who spoke under anonymity revealed that trouble erupted when Dr. Sebastine, also known as "Jagaban," publicly accused the president of mismanaging over N25 million of the association's funds. When Ekwueme reportedly interrupted him, a heated exchange ensued.

Concerned members, sensing that the formation of the electoral committee might serve Ekwueme’s personal interest, swiftly petitioned the association’s stakeholders, requesting their intervention to halt the election process.

In a letter addressed to Ekwueme and obtained by our correspondent, the stakeholders demanded he step aside while the Board of Trustees (BoT) assumes control of the election proceedings, in accordance with the association’s constitution. The letter was copied to relevant security agencies in the state.

However, Ekwueme has brushed off the stakeholders' directive, dismissing it as laughable and claiming there is no constitutional backing for such action.

As of the time of this report, the situation remains uncertain, with the election atmosphere shrouded in confusion and anticipation over what the next steps will be from the stakeholders.
