The Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship candidate in Uzo-Uwani local government area, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu has on Sunday been declared the winner of the September 21, 2024 council chairmanship election.
Ezugwu, a security expert was pronounced the winner of the election by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission's Returning Officer, Dr. Godwin Anigbo after he roundly defeated the opposition political parties in the area.
The Saturday elections equally had the PDP, a ruling party in Enugu State winning the entire 16 political wards in the council, depicting the party's earlier claim that Uzo-Uwani, even in the last gubernatorial election was never a stronghold for any political party aside from PDP.
In his victory speech immediately after the declaration, the Chairman-Elect, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, while addressing the press, described his victory as a victory for democracy and the freedom of the entire Uzo-Uwani from insecurity, poverty and unemployment.
Ezugwu, further described the election that made him the winner of the council election as a peaceful, free, fair and credible election, thanking the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah and the ENSIEC for providing adequate safety to guarantee the safety voters and the electoral officers, and making the process seamless.
He equally assured the people of Uzo-Uwani that his administration will ensure that they sleep with their two eyes closed, stressing that the council area under his watch will be too hot for kidnappers, robbers and other criminal elements to operate.
"Today is a day I can never forget in a haste. The people of Uzo-Uwani have entrusted their mandate to me and I am going to make them proud. This calls for a work. It calls for the security of lives and property of my people. It calls for the return of the glory of Uzo-Uwani as the food basket of the state. It calls for the emancipation of our youth from the long time neglect in political participation. I shall work with every fiber of my being to ensure that hunger, insecurity and poverty are totally eradicated from my council. I therefore, dedicate this victory to the Almighty God, asking for his strength and wisdom to lead my people to an enviable height," Ezugwu prayed.
The lawyer equally thanked the entire Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders for standing intrepidly by him throughout the campaign period, working themselves out to ensure the victory of their party in Saturday Chairmanship and Councilorship elections.
