Tragedy in Enugu: Gov Mbah Orders Manhunt for Killers of OMMATA Chairman

…Pledges swift justice for late Chief Aniagu's family, traders

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to security agencies to apprehend the murderers of Chief Stephen Aniagu, the Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders Association (OMMATA). Mbah made it clear that no crime of this magnitude would go unpunished under his administration.

Governor Mbah, who expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, extended his heartfelt condolences to Aniagu's family and the entire OMMATA community.

Chief Aniagu was tragically shot dead by unknown gunmen at the outskirts of Enugu metropolis last Saturday evening, a development that has sent shockwaves across the state.

Speaking on the matter on Sunday, Governor Mbah said, “The news of the brutal assassination of Chief Stephen Aniagu, the OMMATA Chairman, is heart-wrenching. This is a great loss not just to OMMATA, but to Enugu State as a whole.

“I have immediately tasked our security agencies with the responsibility of capturing the perpetrators within 48 hours. Let it be clear to every criminal operating in this state that we have the tools, technology, and the will to ensure justice is served. We will not rest until every individual involved in this heinous crime is brought to book.

"These criminals have crossed a line, and there will be no peace for them until they are apprehended. The full weight of the law will descend upon them.”

The governor also assured residents of the state that their safety remains his administration's top priority, urging them to go about their daily activities without fear. "Ndi Enugu, be assured of your safety. We will continue to protect lives and property. Those challenging our authority will be dealt with decisively," he added.

In his message of condolence, Mbah praised Chief Aniagu for his dedication to his community, noting that his contributions to OMMATA and the state would not be forgotten. “The Government and people of Enugu stand with his family and OMMATA in this difficult time. Justice will be served, and his killers will face the full wrath of the law," Mbah promised.
