Governor Mbah Urges Enugu Youth to Harness Technology, Embrace Hard Work and Empathy for Future Success

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has called on the youth of the state to fully embrace technology while cultivating essential virtues such as hard work, courage, and empathy to achieve success in their lives.

During an interaction at the Government House in Enugu, where participants of the Custos Care Foundation's August Bootcamp were led by the governor’s wife, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, Governor Mbah emphasized that true courage often involves knowing when to avoid conflict rather than seeking it.

“There are no shortcuts to success,” Governor Mbah declared. “To reach your goals, you must adopt certain values, and no circumstance of birth can hinder your progress. The only obstacle to achieving your dreams is you.”

Highlighting the importance of determination, the governor encouraged the youth to make bold decisions, but also stressed the need to understand that courage is not always about confrontation. “Courage can sometimes mean choosing not to fight but to retreat. This is often misunderstood, yet it is a crucial aspect of wisdom,” he explained.

Governor Mbah also stressed the necessity of hard work and dedication. “Your future greatness depends on the effort and quality you put into everything you do. There’s no way around it—success begins with hard work, starting with your education. If you aspire to achieve the best grades, you must work tirelessly and develop strong work ethics,” he said.

Acknowledging the unique advantages of today’s youth, he urged them to embrace technology, a critical tool for future success. “You are fortunate to have been born in the digital age. While the older generation had to adapt and learn new skills, you have the advantage of growing up in this era. Equip yourselves with these essential future skills because they will be crucial in the competitive world of tomorrow,” Governor Mbah advised.

Moreover, the governor emphasized the importance of empathy and fairness in dealing with others. “Be mindful of how others feel. When you act, do so with care and fairness,” he urged.

Governor Mbah also lauded the Custos Care Foundation—a non-profit organization founded by Mrs. Mbah—for its role in empowering Enugu youth through scholarships awarded to those who excelled in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). He assured the youth that his administration is committed to preparing them and future generations with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

“Our government is focused on the future, and we understand that the decisions we make today will shape what you, as future leaders, will face tomorrow. We have a duty to ensure that we provide you with the platform to succeed, which is reflected in the policies we are implementing today,” he stated.

He pointed out that initiatives such as the Smart Green Schools, which include laboratories equipped with tools for learning Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mechatronics, are designed to prepare Enugu’s children for the future.

Earlier, the Executive Director of Custos Care Foundation, Egodi Igwe, highlighted the foundation's commitment to empowering the youth through the August 2024 bootcamp, themed “Enugu Youth Aspire.” She noted that the program, aimed at youths aged 15-20 from across all local government areas in the state, was designed to empower, educate, and inspire them.

“The selection process was fair and transparent. We brought together experts from diverse fields to mentor the youth and equip them with skills that will benefit them throughout their lives,” Igwe said.
