The Lawmaker representing Igboetiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Dr. Martins Oke, on Wednesday, 28 of August, 2024, distributed three trucks of fertilisers to farmers as part of efforts to bolster agricultural productivity and empower his constituents


The distribution event which was held at Ogbede, in Igboetiti LGA of Enugu State had in attendance over 500 farmers across the constituency. Others were traditional rulers across the two LGA's, and a team from PRODA, ICPC and the federal ministry of special duties who came to observe the exercise. 


The event which was designed to equip youths and women with vital skills in plantain cultivation and vocational training, featured two resource persons, who took their turns to drill the trainees on both business plans and practial farming processes. 


The three trucks of NPK fertilisers were however, evenly distributed to the trainees on completing the exercise. 


In his address, Rt. Hon. Dr. Martins Okeh commended the 500 participants for their dedication to the training program. 


He emphasised that since taking office in 2019, his administration has consistently prioritised agricultural initiatives aimed at boosting local food production and combating hunger across the constituency. 


"One of the greatest challenges our country, Nigeria, faces is hunger. and in order to address this challenge, the Federal Government has given us these fertilizers to distribute to farmers in our various Constituencies. 


"You will agree with me that Since 2019, we have made it a tradition to introduce at least, one program annually, focussing on agriculture or skill acquisition, to empower our people.


"Most recently, you will recall that we had distributed over four truck of 25KG of rice to our people at this same venue, and we have continued to do this to help our people in anyway we can," he stated.


Meanwhile, In addition to the training, as well as distribution of the fertilizers, each of the 500 participants received a cash envelope and one plantain suckers l, for planting.
